Testing New To Me Hand Needles from Podunk Pretties

These Lori Holt Binding Needles were purchased almost a year ago at the Nimble Thimbles Quilt show in Franklin, Indiana. Somehow the cute little needles were shoved in my notions drawer and forgotten.

Leave it to Lori to make a needle cute.  They have pink paint on the top of each needle.  The pink means it's a binding needle. She has needles with different color paint for different uses.  Some reviews say the paint makes them easier to thread. We'll see about that shortly.

In my last blog post I found a few quilts needing labels.  This is ...

Time For Fall Quilts from Podunk Pretties

I may be jumping the gun a bit but I'm ready for the leaves to change, no weeds to pull, campfires, and sweat free living!

So to kick start the fall season this weekend was spent washing the summer quilts and bringing out the fall quilts.  Below is my stash of seasonal quilts.  The boxes with stars are not full of quilts.  They are mostly decor with only one quilt shoved in one because I'm running out of space.  The plan is to someday put shelves in the closet and do away with the totes.  Then what would ...

New Quilt Pattern - Merry Pinwheels from A Little Bit Biased

 Hi friends!
I'd like to introduce you to my new pattern,
Merry Pinwheels!

I wanted to design a 2-1/2" strip-friendly pattern
and thought these pinwheels were really fun!

Merry Pinwheels would be cute in any colorway.
But I used this darling Rolie Polie from Riley Blake Designs called
Holiday Cheer by My Mind's Eye.

It's full of vintagy Christmas goodness!

And bonus, the selvages are so cute!

I believe the skill level for Merry Pinwheels is "confident beginner".

It comes with instructions for FIVE different quilt sizes:
Crib, Throw, Twin, Queen, and King.
This is the ...

Scrappy Brick Quilt from A Little Bit Biased

 Good morning!
I have another scrap-buster quilt
to share with you today.

It's a brick-style quilt.  Have you made one of those before?
It was my first time doing one and you can't
get any easier than this pattern right here!

I was using up scraps leftover from my Kaleidoscope quilt
which you can see HERE.  I ended up cutting some more rectangles
from my stash and scraps to make it a little bigger though.

I cut 3" x 9" for the main rectangles and 3" x 4-3/4" rectangles for the half-rectangles.
The finished size of this ...

Sunday Stash September 17, 2023 from Quilt Paint Create

I finished the challenge quilt, now named Still Life, for some fabric out. It’s always a relief to get those quilts finished on time.

I won’t get the next challenge until the 26th, which leaves time to do something else. With lots going on between now and then, a handful of small projects makes the most sense.

I pulled fabric to make pillowcases. A lot of bedding made its way into the rag bin this year, and we need replacements.

My sister’s quilt needs a label.

I would also like to frame Words of Joy Tree ...

Self-Printed Quilt Labels from Quilting through Rose-colored Trifocals!

Here's a quick tutorial for printing quilt labels with an ink jet printer at home with regular fabric.  I fall back on this approach when I don't have any commercial printer ready fabric or when I want to use quilt fabric.  I think I learned how to do this from Caryl Bryer Fallert many years ago in a fabric printing workshop she taught for my shop.

It's simple but there are a few tricks for success.

This weekend, I finished the twelfth block for my version of Pamala Jo Designs Whirly Weeds 2023 Sewalong and I have ...

Sidetracked from Cat Patches

Good morning, my friends. It's January's last gasp today. Tomorrow is the reveal for the challenge quilt I've teased you with. Are you ready?

My post is written and I'm ready to go. Yesterday saw me sidetracked by the Bernie's Mittens project. I was supposed to work on the Purrfectly Pieced quilt, but you know...the best laid plans, and all that.

Mike and Erik are getting together this week to work on a project, and I really wanted to finish it off. When I saw it lying on Eliza's table, I decided to ...

2 Stars A Day Quilt Finish from A Little Bit Biased

I finally got some photos of my
finished 2 Stars a Day quilt!
If you want the simple, free pattern
 for this project click HERE.

I was looking for a way to use up my
beautiful Liberty fabrics and got the wild idea to
make 2 stars a day for a month with them.  It was a fun
challenge project and a good way to practice a little
stick-to-itive-ness.

I had all the star fabrics in my stash, as well as, the two background fabrics
(which were both linen fabrics - one tan and one cream.  Sorry,
I don't know ...

A "Crazy" Story from Telling Stories Through the Needle's Eye

When we first started our blog and set up our Through the Needle's Eye website, our hope was to invite others with stories of their quilts to share. In fact, on the home page of our website, there is a form asking you to share stories you may have about your treasures. We were absolutely delighted to receive this email a few weeks ago from Kathleen Barden. Her story was so fascinating that we asked her permission to share it with you. She has kindly accepted our invitation, and thrilled us further by sending pictures. Thank you, Kathleen! And ...

Embroidery, Binding and What's on my Design Wall from The Cozy Quilter

For my slow stitching this week, I spent some time working on my embroidered quilt label for my Lupine quilt.  I removed the blue pen marks from the parts that I have done already.  I had to do some unstitching when I used only two strands of floss instead of three when I started stitching the black letters this week.  Oops!  I must say it is harder to unstitch embroidery than machine stitching!

I added the binding to another comfort quilt this week and started hand stitching it on the back.  This is a biggish square quilt so I anticipate ...

Prepping for Guild Sewing Day and some Hand stitching. from The Cozy Quilter

I'm not one of those quilters who cuts everything out before starting to sew a quilt.  I like to cut a little, sew a little, press a little and then repeat until I have enough blocks. This week, I started getting ready for the Vice President's Challenge day at the Oxford Quilters Guild next Saturday.  This event, usually in person, will be on Zoom again this year.  I needed several fat quarters and some yardage for background for this project.  We are to prepare a whole bunch of HST's before the sewing day.  I am using some ...

Snowball and 9-Patch Quilt from A Little Bit Biased

If you're looking for a quick, scrappy way to use up
some of your fabric stash this is a great quilt pattern for you!

Snowballs (in this case a black square with cream corner triangles)
and 9-Patches are a classic pairing that look great in any colorway!

This project started because I had some of the black text fabric leftover
from the back of my Giant Star quilt using the line Urban Cottage by
Urban Chiks.  You can see that post HERE (it's worth checking out, it's
another super-fast, beginner-friendly project!)

I thought that fabric was cute ...

Mallard Duck Mini Finish with Free Motion Mavericks from Quilting & Learning

Even without my favourite sewing machine, I was able to sew and quilt with the walking foot, my son's Mallard Duck mini. When I showed it to him, he said that he would find a spot for this one and the other two that I've made for him.

Finishing the Mallard Duck

As you saw in my Making a Mallard Duck Mini post, the foundation paper piecing went well. I always manage to make at least one piece that doesn't have enough selvage but I'm really good at problem solving

New Beginnings - A Free Quilt Pattern from A Little Bit Biased

Hi friends!  I have a new pattern to share with you today!
And the best part?  It's FREE!

I'm calling this pattern New Beginnings.  Would you care to know why?
I love when there's a story behind a pattern or it's name so let me tell you
TWO reasons why I chose to call it New Beginnings.  First, because of the
Hourglass blocks.  Every time an hourglass runs out of sand and you
flip it over, time starts anew.  The second reason I decided to call it New Beginnings,
is because I actually made the X ...

Another Month, Another Goal... Or Two: Of Bear Paws and Kaleidoscopes from Cheeky Cognoscenti

I was long-winded on the topic of that vintage Economy quilt yesterday, so today's post is going to be Short and Sweet!

I have a Major Goal for April as well as a Minor Goal.  The Minor Goal is to get my Color Outside the Lines bear paw quilt off my WIP list.  That entails labeling, binding, and hand finishing the binding on this one.  After clearing off the heaps of fabric debris on the cutting table from my kaleidoscope, I finally had room to trim the bear paw quilt and machine embroider its label yesterday.

Machine Embroidered Label ...

Design Wall Monday - November 9, 2020 from Small Quilts and Doll Quilts

Good Morning Quilters!   This week has been a week where several projects were worked on, nothing was finished completely, and some cleaning of the quilt room happened.  Actually, a very little bit of cleaning, but some happened.  Some weeks are like that. The only quilting to show you is that the broken dishes doll quilt will now have a border of hsts.  It looked too plain, and I got out my

Tuesday's To-Do List: Still Slogging Along With Butterflies and Clam Shells from Cheeky Cognoscenti

Might as well just get to the meat and potatoes this week!  Last week's goals turned out to be overly ambitious:

✅ finish quilting Modern Baby Clam Shells, AND

get it labeled and

❌ bound, AND

❌ get my Letter Home baby quilt top and ready to load on my frame.

After quilting the pantograph design over most of my Modern Baby Clam Shells quilt and stitching in the ditch around my butterfly appliqués  a quilter who was more goal oriented and focused than I am would have finished up the quilting with some monofilament or color matched thread to machine quilt ...

Friendship Quilts & Labels from Humble Quilts

My dear friend Julie sent me this little quilt. I don't think she even had a reason! It is so precious.
I really do feel blessed to have such a great group of online quilt friends!
And I've even had the bonus to chat with her on the phone. She is as sweet as ever!!

Labels, labels, labels....
I attached the little label that was sent back with my International Quilt Fest quilts. And then I remembered I had an Oregon documentation quilt label that I had never sewn on! Only waited 10 years to do it!!  That ...
